About Camille

"I'm more introverted than an extrovert ..."

Camille Liu is a French designer studying her second year of knitwear at Central Saint Martins. Born 12th July 1996, she is one of the younger students on her course, but this doesn’t show in her work. Lui shows a vast and eclectic knowledge of the world, citing references and inspirations such as Nijinsky, Joseph Beuys, Araki and Madame Gris.

Her designs show the body as embellished art, and she has become renown for her beaded clothing. Garments are usually heavily adorned, yet expose the skin in a way that is sensual and flattering, hence the site name ‘Bijoux de Corps’, meaning ‘body jewellery'. She imagines her garments worn by classical dancers, saying it would be an honour to contribute to designing their clothes. One day she hopes to work for the Opera of Paris.

A self-described introvert, Liu enjoys working in her “own little universe” at her home in London. She does this listening to movies, and can get through as many as seven movies a day. Favourites include ‘The Dreamers’ and ‘Lolita’.

The pride in her French nationality beams beautifully through in her designs. She looks back on her time in Paris with nostalgia; she misses the ease in which she could visit the cinema, the streets where she grew up and the French way of living. One day she wishes to return to Paris to open a boutique.
